Whiskey

Also Whisky: From the Gaelic word, uisge beatha, meaning “water of life,” whiskey is made from grain that is ground into grist, then cooked with water to release starches. Malt is added to convert the starch into sugar, and then yeast to begin the fermentation process. The low proof liquid after fermentation is called beer, which after distillation becomes whisky.
